post birthday check
I don’t know how to maneuver in this space anymore. It’s like playing one of the many permutations of the standard poker game. You sidle up to the table, watch a round, and smile because you think you know the rules. Then you plunk down your cash and discover too late that while the rules were familiar, they aren’t quite the ones you know. Just similar enough to make you...
Hullo
So today, as usual, I woke up and immediately checked my email. (My laptop has a special place on my bed, and it’s the first thing I touch when I wake up. I’m a dork like that, I know.) Among a few scattered birthday greetings from entities like my New York yoga gym and my Las Vegas secondhand bookshop, right there among Migrate to Australia online pamphlets and Visit Britain...
Water Landing on the Hudson
OMG, I wanted to blog about this because I got goosebumps when I read about it. The Hudson must be freezing at this time of the year. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/16/nyregion/16crash.html?hp Kudos to the Pilot for such a masterful job, the flight crew for keeping calm, the rescue crew for being so quick, and even the passengers for keeping their heads!
More on Matt

Can do a mean cockney too. He was very good in both The Ruby in the Smoke and The Shadow in the North, BBC adaptations of Philip Pullman’s Sara Lockheart series. I wouldn’t go...

The Doctor Who Christmas Special was CRAP...
(or a rant nobody but BBC One watchers are likely to understand) Crap, crap, crap. This was one of the dumbest, most hole-ridden, most annoying episodes ever. Should have known Russel T. Davies was behind it. I mean, DUUUUUDE, a hot air balloon that magically doesn’t move while it’s in the air? Cybermen that somehow don’t shoot the thing at first sight? Cyber-sasquatches? ...

Coron - random musings
So Coron. Beautiful, stunning Coron. But absolutely not for everyone. This is not Boracay or Puerto Galera or anything like that. Not a party place AT ALL. Many restaurants (actually, there aren’t even that many restaurants and no clubs or anything like that either) close at 9 pm. There’s no sunset dancing in the sand, or the plethora of merrymakers imported all the way from...
